Border Collie Mix!, Dog of the Week, Marilyn Monroe Look-Alike
Our first dog of the week in 2019 is LUNA! Well, Little Luna to be more precise. We have SO many Luna’s that come to Dawg Gone It that we have to use either nicknames or first and last names for them!
Here she is!
Luna, border collie extraordinaire!
What is she doing in this photo you ask? Well, she is a border collie mix (or possibly an Aussie mix; more on this later), so she herds things. She tends to stand straight up and stare like this when she sees “a sheep.” Given her play style, you could use several analogies for this pose: linebacker getting ready to blitz would be appropriate… I think of her more as a fighter jet pilot, so I call this “targeting.”
Here is another angle of her at this same moment.
Target Acquired: Great Pyrenees, White, call sign “Tatonka,” suspected sheep in dog’s clothing
What does she do next? Let’s see:
Target Acquired: Cane Corso Mix, Brindle, call sign “Tali”
Target Destroyed!
Luna is one of the smallest dogs that plays on big dog side, but her energy is unmatched. She consistently out-wrestles the biggest, strongest dogs who come to Dawg Gone It! Nori the doberman moved away before we got good photos of Luna showing her that dobermans aren’t as strong as they think, but Tali from the photos above is well more than twice Luna’s size.
Target Acquired: Boxer Mix, Black, call sign “Lady”
Target captured. Stand by for interrogation.
Luna: So, uh, you come here often?
Lady: Yes. You know that. You had to chase me down just for that?
Luna has tons of friends, and these dogs she overcomes with sheer energy and will power love her dearly for it. Here is another photo of her and Lady after Luna wore her out ALL MORNING.
The thing is, Lady is spent, Luna will be up wearing down another dog within minutes.
Luna doesn’t always commence the wrestling when she “targets” a dog.
Target Acquired: Shepherd Mix, Brown, call sign “Arya”
Who is under there with you, Luna?
Oh HAI Arya!
Luna is a popular girl, and she and her friends enjoy all SORTS of activities together, including cuddling under dog bridges. Other activities include joining forces to defeat evil…
Luna: Calling for backup! Multiple targets in sight!
Ellie: I’ve got your six, engage when ready.
… and gossiping under the play group wall.
Watcha lookin’ at, Luna?
Oh HAI Luna B.!
Luna B. is one of her very best friends. Here is a slow-mo video of Little Luna and Luna B. playing together:
After seeing Little Luna come out on top over, and over, and over again, we decided there was only one way she could be defeated. So we CLONED HER! MEET YOUR MATCH, LUNA!
Breed: Border Collie Mix (we think… she has no tail though, so maybe an Aussie mix that just happens to have border collie coloring AND size?!? Border Aussie?)
Age: She turns 1 in a couple months!
Weight: 25 lbs.
First Time at DGI: July 25, 2018
Shedding: Yep! That beautiful coat looks great on her AND on her mom’s floor!
Nickname(s): Little Luna, Luna Tuna
Best Friends: Luna B. is one of her best friends, but Luna likes to play with everyone. Some of her favorites are Ellie, Cali, Taylor Mae, Poppy, Lady, Tali, Violet, and Teddy.
Funny Story: If you look closely, she has a little black spot on the right side of her mouth. We call it her Marilyn Monroe Mole.
