Dog of the Week, Frenchies!, Penguin Dog
This week’s Dog of the Week is LOLA!
She just finished a lodging stay with us, so we got a lot of good photos of her. Here she is with friends:
So, we have a lot of Frenchies that come to Dawg Gone It, and most of them are crazy little pups. Lola has a different take on what it means to be a Frenchie. She’s fairly calm, extremely pretty, very polite… For example, when they want attention, lots of dogs DEMAND IT. Lola just gives you “the look.”
We’ve figured something out about Lola versus other Frenchies. She is a little shorter in the butt, which gives her back a slope from head down to tail (or lack thereof). She also holds her head kinda low compared to other Frenchies. This gives her a certain look, as if she lacks confidence or something. That’s not the case, of course, but every photo you take has that effect.
Take the photo below. Alfie in the foreground, high head, high butt. Looking certain of himself, Alfie KNOWS the world thinks he is cute, partially because of constant social media affirmations to that fact. He is a millenial Frenchie.
Now look at Lola. Head low, a little slope to her back because her legs aren’t as long/straight as Alfie’s. She looks almost jealous of his puppy-like confidence, but ultimately knows that such confidence is misguided. She is a Generation X Frenchie.
Knowing Lola as we do, we know that it’s actually that she’s older and wiser than others of her breed at Dawg Gone It. She is a philosopher of sorts.
Dogs often stand on our stairs in the playroom and gaze out. We call the stairs “Pride Rock” for obvious reasons. Usually, dogs look like they are confidently surveying their domain. Lola, with her low head and posture, looks like she is pondering the mysteries of life.
Of course, she can be silly too.
We need to share a classic Lola photo. This is what she looks like when she comes to ask for attention. Sits right next to you, stares straight up, drops her ears just a little. Completely irresistible.
Following a stay, dogs are always excited to see their parents again. We took a video of Lola’s reaction:
Also, we wrote a song about her (to the tune of Copacabana, from the chorus):
Her name is Lola,
She is a good girl.
She snuggles up into a tight curl.
At Dawg Gone It, she comes and plays all day.
When Lola comes knocking the party starts rocking,
At Dawg Goooooooooonnnnnneee It! We fell in loooooove… In love with Looolaaa!
Breed: Frenchie!
Age: 7
Weight: 24.4 lbs.
First Time at DGI: January 16, 2016
Shedding: Negligible. And speaking of fur, she’s SOFT.
Nickname(s): Usually just Lola. Sometimes Lulu or Lola-Butt. We often call her by her full name (Lola + her parents’ last name), but we’ll leave that off of here in case other Dawg Gone It dogs try to use her last name to find her on facebook.
Best Friends: She liked hanging out with Jameson during this latest stay. She mostly likes other Frenchies quite a bit: Toby, Alfie, Niles, Phoebe, Betty. It is interesting how Frenchies seem to hang out together. We’ll write a post about Frenchies in general some time. They’re unique little dogs.
Funny Story: Lola has this adorable way of sitting. She sits straight up and down so that her back paws are almost in a line with her front paws. We’ve always thought it makes her look rather like an emperor penguin. You could poke a penguin egg in between her legs on top of her back claws, and it would soon hatch and begin the long march through the bitter cold towards the sea.
